The key to any
guide wrap is to first "prepare" the guide. This is done
by filing the end of the guide foot between 1/3 and 1/2 the distance
up the guide foot. This allows the thread to smoothly transition
from the blank over the end of the guide foot without a break in
the thread wraps. Remember to also smooth the bottom of the
guide to remove rough edges what will cut through the underwrap
or damage the blank itself. All new generation rod blanks are thin
walled with the fiberglass or graphite oriented longitudinally along
the length of the blank a deep scrape will damage the integrity
of the blank.
(Tip:
I like to use a Dremel motor tool fitted with a diamond abrasive
wheel of 400 grit to get a smooth transition).
