Mix Epoxy

The Ken Preston Logo

Carefully and slowly blend the coloring agent into a thin (watery) 2-part epoxy mix. Clemens Custom Tackle and  Manhattan Custom tackle each have their own formulations. I prefer the  Manhattan Custom tackle 2-part mix, as it is very thin and easy to work with.

CAUTION: This mixture is HIGHLY FLAMMABLE. When using this material, ensure adequate ventilation and NO open flames.

To create a semi-opaque finish — for instance transparent green  over a white blank — mix a small amount of the coloring agent into the epoxy to create an opaque color on a rod blank. Mix in enough so that the epoxy is completely opaque in the mixing vessel. Again I recommend that this mixing vessel be made of glass and that the glass be precleaned with acetone and a clean, high-density paper towel. An alternative is to use a piece of aluminum foil curled up at the ends to create a cup shape. Understand though that during the manufacturing process, a "release agent" (oily  substance) is used to free the thin sheet of aluminum foil from the rollers. Therefore, always use the shiny side to mix in.
