Insert a Ferrule

The Ken Preston Logo

Since the rod is hollow, the best approach is to insert a ferrule inside both sections of the broken blank. If you are fortunate, the break occurred near a guide, under the grip assembly, or under the reel seat.  If not, the procedure is still the same but the repair will alter the flex of the rod at the joint.

The new ferrule should be glued in place with a two-part chemically activated epoxy.  Epoxies with cure rates of as little as 5 minutes can be used.  However, I personally prefer to use a slow cure, as this gives me a little more leeway in realigning the blank along the original axis.
