These were popular in the 1930s through the early to mid-1940s and are the precursors to today's most modern guides. The glass, or in some cases garnet (a gemstone with a hardness index of 8.5 to 9, as compared to diamond at 10), inner ring was fit in a high quality nickel silver band. These guides are almost impossible to find today except on old fishing rods. They were most popular on the highest priced bamboo (cane) fly rods and boat rods.
