Once all
of the finish has been removed and the rod wiped with a clean dry
cloth, the shaft can be inspected for any separations in the glue
bonds. If there are none, a new blade, again drawn slowly backwards
across the surface, will result in extremely fine curlings
of cane/bamboo. The result should be a shiny, polished surface patina
on the cane as shown.
In the photo
at the lower left you will notice that the top plane of the bamboo
on the left side has not been washed; onthe right has not had the
finish removed; on the facing plane on the left is a section with
the finish removed and a distinct line from that point to the right
where the finish has been removed and the shaft has been polished.
